What Attracts Rodents to Your Home

Some of the top things that attract rodents to your home:

Overgrown bushes and shrubs make great harbourage sites for rodents. Also rats and squirrels will use tree branches that overhang onto your roof as a ladder, to access your attic. We recommend cutting back overhanging branches, at least 6 feet away from your home.

One of the biggest attractants for rodents is food.

Never leave pet food dishes outside. This will invariably attract rodents and or racoons to your property. You should only use a rodent proofed compost bin, one that has a solid bottom and a proper fitting lid. Never compost meat or solid food scraps as the scent of these items is a calling card for vermin. Windows and doors that are frequently left open should have proper screens. All doors should have door sweeps that have a tight seal. Rats can squeeze into openings as small as a quarter, and mice can squeeze through holes as small as a dime.

These simple tips will make your home less inviting to rats, mice, and squirrels.
